Visio Divina • The Age of the Church
Appearance on the mountain in Galilee

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.” – Matthew 28:18-20
Moses, Jeremiah, even St. Joseph initially show apprehension about speaking or acting on behalf of God; indeed it is both a great challenge and honour to do so. And yet, Jesus asks us to speak on His behalf when He commanded us to preach the Gospel to all nations. Notice in this painting how our Lord’s feet are transparent on the rock, but His body is solid. Conversely, the Apostles’ feet are solid on the grounding signifying, in a sense, that the Apostles are the feet of our Lord on earth. We too, share in this mission, to be His hands and feet on earth. Prayerfully consider how we are called to be Our Lord’s hands and feet.
