The Lamentation at the Tomb
Steve Knight (President, Epiphany Sacred Arts Guild)
“They took the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.” – John 19:40
In a meditation on the last Sation of the Cross, St. John Henry Newman reflects, ” [Jesus] went from thy home, O Mother of God, in the strength and beauty of His manhood, and He comes back to thee dislocated, torn to pieces, mangled, dead.” Our Lady holds her beloved Son in her arms, gazing upon Him with love and sorrow. Mary holds Him so close that her face touches His. Prayerfully ask our Lady to bring you close to Jesus, close enough to touch Him, to hold Him closely, to share in His sorrow, and His joy.
