Noah's Ark

Artist Unknown

15th Century

“Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence… For behold, I will bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life from under heaven…” Genesis 6:11, 17

Water can be life-giving, but it can also be destructive. Consider the waters of Baptism, which destroyed original sin, and all actual sin (in Adult Baptism). Most paintings of Noah’s ark consist in the building of the ark, but this one portrays Noah in the ark with his family, while birds scout for dry land. Prayerfully consider God’s mercy which is in the here and now, and the wonderful element of water, which cleansed the world from sin.
